IN DEVELOPMENT / RESEARCH IN PROGRESS

COMPANION PROJECTA family companion for growing together.

Beyond answering questions, we are exploring a physical AI interface that helps children express themselves, gives parents a new opening for conversation and supports families as they grow together.

An independent application project built on the open Reachy Mini robotics platform. Reachy Mini is developed by Pollen Robotics and Hugging Face. FPMatrix is not affiliated with or jointly developing the hardware.

WHY COMPANIONSHIP

Companionship should support relationships.

Children need more than a machine that always has an answer. They often need something patient enough to wait and respond, while returning the conversation to the family.

We want the robot to help children express feelings and uncertainty more naturally, and help parents find a starting point for understanding and conversation.

It is not a psychological diagnostic, treatment or counselling tool, and does not replace parents, teachers or professional mental health services.

CAPABILITY ROADMAP

Build trust before adding capability.

We do not present every idea as a finished feature. Each layer of capability must first be tested in real family settings.

01NOW

Family companionship

Explore long-term companionship around daily greetings, emotional expression and parent-child conversation, with clear boundaries and no dependency cues.

02NEXT

Learning support

With guardian consent, connect learning records such as mistake journals and turn real difficulties into natural explanations and practice.

03FUTURE

Hands-on AI learning

Let children design dialogue, movement and behaviour so they can understand AI by making things with it.

04FUTURE

Connected home spaces

With explicit adult configuration and safety boundaries, explore natural control of low-risk devices such as lights, music and reminders.

A FAMILY-CENTERED SYSTEM

Human relationships stay at the center.

Companion Project is designed to connect children, parents and the environments where they grow, without creating a closed relationship between a child and a machine.

01

Guardians understand and authorize use, and can review or delete related data.

02

Collect only the information required for the current function, without indefinite memory by default.

03

No psychological diagnosis and no intimate language designed to encourage emotional dependency.

04

Adults configure connected-home capabilities, limited to low-risk devices and situations.

OPEN PLATFORM

Built on an open robotics platform.

Reachy Mini is an open-source expressive desktop robot developed by Pollen Robotics and Hugging Face, with camera, audio, motion control and application development capabilities. FPMatrix is building software, interactions and safety mechanisms for family settings on this open platform.

This page describes an independent FPMatrix research direction. It does not represent official Reachy Mini functionality or promise medical or educational outcomes.
